(LWML - Lutheran Women's Missionary League) Membership is open to
any women of our church. Meets once a month on the first Monday evening. The Mary Martha Guild met
for their January 7th meeting in the Multi-purpose room with 18 active and two
associate members present. The meeting was called to order by President Gale
Mersiovsky. Karen Fitch presented an
inspirational and informative devotion titled “Mighty Mites,” reminding the
group of how each member’s eleven cents a day
combine to fund hundreds of thousands of dollars in District and National LWML
Mite projects. Georgette Bragdon gave the Mission Prayer.
Minutes
of the November 2007 meeting were approved as printed.
Treasurer Nancy Lehmann reported a balance of $1,325.05 in the general
fund, of which $423.71 is earmarked for Bereavement.
There is $1,117.34 in the local savings account and $5,216.21 in the
Texas District CEF account. Nancy
also gave an annual report of income and expenses, a copy of which is on file
with these Minutes. Committee Reports:
Program:
Stell Midgett announced Birthdays and Anniversaries for January.
Membership:
President Mersiovsky challenged every one to help recruit new members
into the Guild.
Cheer:
Sharon Pietsch reported 113 cards were sent in 2007.
Altar:
Gladys Teinert reported 60 poinsettias were ordered for Christmas.
She also stated that the Chrismons are in desperate need of
repair/replacement and showed a sample of one she borrowed from St. Michael,
Winchester, made out of felt rather than Styrofoam.
Consensus was this type Chrismon would be more durable.
Carolyn
Mersiovsky asked for permission to purchase two (three-step) stools; one to be
kept in the church and one for the Education Building.
She stated we need something sturdy to use when stringing lights, etc.
She also stated that the 93-ft garland (per side) used in decorating the
church needs to be replaced and suggested we purchase the pre-lit type.
The motion was made by Nancy Lehmann and seconded by
Gladys Teinert giving Carolyn permission to buy the stepstools and to gather
prices on the garland and report back to the Guild, with the expenses for these
items paid from savings. Motion passed. Sharon
Pietsch reported that we need approximately 12 more plant stands.
She will get a design and price quote from Don Newman and report back at
the next meeting. Bereavement:
We served 57 people at one funeral luncheon in December.
Custodian:
No report.
Church Women United:
Jeanette Huelsebusch reported that the next meeting of this group is
scheduled for Monday, January 14, at which time the 2008 schedule will be
announced.
Special Committee Reports:
President
Mersiovsky announced that Mary Walker, Donna Kappler, and Stell Midgett will
serve as the Audit Committee for the 2007 books.
Unfinished Business:
Thanks and favorable comments were expressed for the work of Guild members
hosting Advent Lunches, the Christmas Social, and the Secret Sister Social.
President Mersiovsky reported that 17 children from Fayette County who
are currently under Child Welfare supervision were sponsored by Guild/Mt.
Calvary members for Christmas.
New Business:
Motion was made by Jeanette Huelsebusch and seconded by
Joan Miertschin that we donate $50.00 to the Family Crisis Center in Bastrop in
memory of deceased members.
Motion passed.
The
annual Spaghetti Supper will be held Tuesday, February 5.
Gladys Teinert reported that 750 tickets had been printed and she
distributed packets of tickets to those in attendance.
Tickets will be placed in the church boxes of those Guild members not in
attendance at this meeting. Mrs.
Teinert stated that cake squares will be served with this meal and that Elsie
Michalk has agreed to be in charge of cutting and boxing up the squares.
To provide adequate cake squares, each Guild member is to bring one 9x12
sheet cake and Elsie will solicit additional cakes from congregation members.
Lenten lunches
for the month of February were discussed. Karen
Fitch, Jeanette Huelsebusch and Donna Kappler will take care of the Feb 6 and 13
meals; Carolyn Mersiovsky, Gale Mersiovsky and Stell Midgett will serve on Feb
20; Georgette Bragdon will check to see if the Preschool will serve on Feb 27.
Karen Fitch made the motion, seconded by Joan Miertschin,
that one-half of the receipts from the first three lunches be designated for LWR
Project Comfort, and the other half be designated for the general fund to help
defer Convention expenses, and that the proceeds from the remaining two lunches
by the Guild to be served March 5 and 12 be designated for Relay for Life.
Motion passed.
Lutheran World
Relief Ingathering: Jeanette
Huelsebusch stated that quilting will resume on Monday, Jan 14, and that we will
begin gathering items for the health kits in late January.
Dedication of the quilts will be held the second Sunday in March, with
delivery of all items to Rutersville on March 24.
Announcements:
Joan Miertschin announced that the 2007 Relay for Life event is scheduled
for September 20.
Tammy Kelm
stated that Shannon Herbrich has a new baby girl and encouraged Guild members to
assist the family with prepared food items, remembering how this helped her when
she had her boys. Tammy also shared
her desire to be in a women’s Bible Study and that she is working on plans for
fellowship with a dessert banquet.
Stell Midgett
will check with the church office to make sure a thank you letter is sent to
Marilyn Schmidt for her gift of the new Christmas banner to Mt. Calvary.
President
Mersiovsky stated the 2008 Yearbooks will be available in a week or so. The next
meeting is scheduled for February 4.
The meeting
was adjourned. In closing, “Happy
Birthday” was sung to the January honorees and The Lord’s Prayer was prayed
in unison.

Acting Secretary Membership is open to any men of our church.
Meets once a month on the third Monday evening. The
Mens
Club met Monday January 21st at the Education Building.
Pastor Bragdon led the devotion titled “ God is Serious”
with a prayer.
Nineteen members answered roll call. Charles Schmidt and Mary
Collins, representatives for Habitat for Humanity, gave a presentation of what
Habitat for Humanity is about and projects they are presently doing in Fayette
County. President Larry Faldyn reported receiving thank you notes from the
Deputy Santa program and Camp Lone Star for the Men's Club donations.
President Faldyn announced the Men's Club are hosts for fellowship time Sunday
February 24 following church service. Robert Pavlik reported the
"Flags Across Texas" meeting is scheduled for 4 pm January 29 for
those interested in attending. Gary Diers announced on March 2 the youth
will have a chicken bbq and the Men's Club will support this event. Ted
Wolfram and Calvin Lange volunteered to audit the Men's Club treasury books.
A motion was made and approved to schedule the Men's Club appreciation meal on
April 27 at the VFW Hall and a catered fried chicken meal be served. The
next scheduled meeting for the Men's Club is 6 pm February 18 at Daniel
Fischer's residence. Committee members James Lehmann, Roy Huelsebusch,
Daniel Fischer, James Herbrich, Victor Bohot and Calvin Bohot are to prepare the
meal. Lutheran Youth Fellowship (LYF) Membership is open to any high school youth of our church. Meets once
each month on the second Sunday during youth Bible class time. Whole Chicken BBQ sponsored by the Mt. Calvary
LYF will be held on March 2nd, from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM.

Ticket will cost $6.00 each, a limited number of tickets are available

The choir is open to anyone who wants to praise God with his or her singing voice. Meets once a week, September through June.
Mt. Calvary now has a handbell choir, open to members of all ages. Anyone interested in finding out more information about any of those worship and ministry opportunities should contact our choir director, Brenda Rainosek, or our music director, Laura Gillette. |
