Frieda Wilhelmina Kleiber was born on November 16, 1909 to Herman Mitschke and Anna Mitschke nee Zimmerman in Winchester, Texas.  She was baptized on November 28, 1909 at St. Michael Lutheran Church of Winchester by Rev. Henry Huge.  On March 25, 1923 she was confirmed at St. Michael Lutheran Church of Winchester by Rev. Alfred Bohot, and given Matthew 26:41 as her confirmation Bible verse.

On October 25, 1933 Frieda Mitschke and Leo Anton Kleiber were married at St. Michael Lutheran Church of Winchester.  When Leo died, in 1953, Frieda moved to La Grange, and joined Zion Lutheran Church, now Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church.  She worked briefly at the school cafeteria, and at Camp Lone Star, before going to work for the Fashion Dress Shop, where she worked for about thirty years, until she retired.  On Wednesday, December 28, 2005, our dear Lord called Frieda Kleiber home, at the age of ninety-six years, one month, and twelve days.

Frieda Kleiber was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son-in-law, John Pratho; and by three brothers, Herman, Walter, & Robert Mitschke.  She is survived by two daughters, Betty Pratho, of Giddings, and Kathy & her husband Bill Glaiser, of La Grange; by one son, Donnie & his wife Billie Kleiber, of Alvin; by three grandchildren, Lisa & her husband Scott Bradley, of Grandberry, Ron Glaiser, of La Grange, and Kim & her husband Haney Robertson, of Alvin; by three great-grandchildren, Morgan Bradley, of Grandberry, Kyler Robertson, of Alvin, and Amanda Bradley, of Grandberry; by two sisters-in-law, Mary Mitschke, of La Grange, and Ann Griggs, of Giddings; by one brother-in-law, August & his wife Lillie Kleiber, of Winchester; and by numerous nieces and nephews.

Junell Zenette Francke Boening was born on January 29, 1917 to Herman Francke, Jr., and Minette Adelina Francke nee Melcher in the Black Jack Community, between Schulenburg and La Grange, Texas.  She was baptized on December 25, 1917 at Philadelphia Lutheran Church of Swiss Alp by Rev. K. Kern.  On August 31, 1930 she was confirmed at Philadelphia Lutheran Church of Swiss Alp.

On January 31, 1937 Junell Francke and Herbert Henry Boening were married at Grace Lutheran Church of Smithville, by Rev. O.C. Shreiner, and she joined her husband in membership at Trinity Hill Lutheran Church of La Grange, now Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church.  She was a tireless worker, who worked for twenty-five years at the Sears & Roebuck Store in La Grange, retiring as store manager in 1976.

Junell was an involved member, and frequent officer, of various organizations in the La Grange area, including the Fayette County Home Demonstration Club (charter member), the Fayette County Chapter of MHMR (charter member), the Mt. Calvary Mary Martha Guild, and the Cedar Cemetery Association, where she served as treasurer for seventeen years.  She was an avid seamstress, who enjoyed many aspects of sewing, from millinery, to dressmaking, to quilting, to crafts.  She and her husband Herbert loved to travel, and she continued to travel, nationally and internationally, after Herbert’s death.  On Tuesday, December 27, 2005, our dear Lord called Junell Boening home, at the age of eighty-eight years, ten months, and twenty-eight days.

Junell Boening was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, in 1988; one son, James, in 1981; and one sister, Dolores Francke Navy.  She is survived by three nieces, Teresa Boening, Sherry Routh, & LeLaine Whiteman; by two nephews, Ronnie Boening & Larry Vasek; by one great-niece, Amy Smith; and by two great-nephews, Kevin Whiteman & Chad Bollmeyer.

Gilbert Otto Willie Schumann was born on February 21, 1923 to Walter Frank Schumann and Ida Annie Schumann nee Tramp in La Grange, Texas.  He was baptized on June 14, 1923 at St. Peter Lutheran Church of Prairie Valley (La Grange) by Rev. Robert Heise.  On March 21, 1937 he was confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church of La Grange by Rev. Robert Heise, and given 2nd Corinthians 12:9 as his confirmation Bible verse.   He attended Rabbs Prairie community school, and served in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1943 until 1946.  He was a corporal in the 739th Tank Battalion under General Patton.

On December 24, 1949 Gilbert Schumann and Sydonia Evelyn Nietsche were married at St. Paul Lutheran Church of La Grange by Rev. H.T. Flachmeier.  Gilbert and Donie moved to Austin in 1950, where he began working for the Carpenter’s Union, Local #1266, and became a construction superintendent, where he worked for Faulkner Construction Company, and others, until his retirement at age 61.  He was especially proud of his construction work at the Brown Schools Ranch for disadvantaged children in Austin.

In Austin, Gilbert & Donie joined Redeemer Lutheran Church, where Gilbert served as an usher, and helped out with various carpentry tasks around the church.  Living in retirement in Elgin from 1985 until 1995, they were members of Grace Lutheran Church, where Gilbert again served as an usher.

Gilbert & Donie moved back home to La Grange in 1995, and joined Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church.  He was a life member of the carpenter’s union local #1266 in Austin, and received his 50th year pen this year.  Gilbert enjoyed hunting, fishing, doing home repairs, and having family gatherings, with bar-be-cue and beer.  Early on Sunday, December 18, 2005, our dear Lord called Gilbert Schumann home, at the age of eighty-two years, nine months, and twenty-seven days.

Gilbert Schumann was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Lambert Schumann, and his wife Ruth; and one half-sister, Lorene Tramp Wessels.

Gilbert Schumann is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Sydonia (Donie) Schumann, of La Grange and Bastrop; by one daughter, Kathy Linder, and her husband Kenneth, of Bastrop; by one son, Gene Schumann, and his wife Linda, of Seguin; by three grandchildren, Bradford Gene Schumann, Keli Rae Schumann, and Kenny Dale Linder II; by one brother, Walter Schumann, Jr., and his wife Frances, of La Grange; by one sister-in-law, Elsie Huebel, of La Grange; by one brother-in-law, Ellis Fite, of Bastrop; and by several nieces and nephews and other relatives.

Selma Gertrude Elisabeth Marquart was born on December 28, 1913 to Richard Walther and Marie Walther nee Hannusch in Warda , Texas .  She was baptized on January 11, 1914 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Warda by Rev. Gottfried Buchschacher.  On April 10, 1927 she was confirmed at Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Warda by Rev. Gottfried Buchschacher, and given Psalm 23:4 as her confirmation Bible verse.

On October 1, 1933 Elizabeth Walther and Otto Alfred Marquart were married at Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Warda, by Rev. Paul Eifert.  Shortly afterward, Elizabeth joined her husband in membership at Zion Lutheran Church of La Grange, now Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church .  Mrs. Marquart was a homemaker, but also helped run the farm, and also found employment with Dyers Pharmacy, and prepared meals at Care Inn Nursing Home.  She was an active member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church for many years, and, along with her husband, sang in the choir.  On Tuesday, November 22, 2005, our dear Lord called Elizabeth Marquart home, at the age of ninety-one years, ten months, and twenty-four days.

Elizabeth Marquart was preceded in death by her husband, in 1987; two infant children, a son and a daughter; one son-in-law, Ruben Ziehr; one brother, Albert; and five sisters, Esther Walther, Leona Wagner, Minnie Luecke, Melitta Matejowsky, & Evelyn Wolff.

Elizabeth Marquart is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Kermit & Mary Jean Marquart, of Waller; by one daughter, Janice Ziehr, of Houston; by one sister, Emily Wolff, of Hobbs, New Mexico; by three grandchildren and their spouses, Marilyn & Elmer Dickerson, of Houston, Claire & Doug Hoffman, of Cypress, and Richard & Rhonda Marquart, of Livingston; and by three great-grandchildren, Elizabeth & Kyle Hoffman, of Cypress, and Torie Marquart, of Livingston.

LENA LOTH

Lena Vicey Loth was born on August 26, 1917 to William Charles Drosche and Vicey May Frances Drosche nee Carline in Fedor , Texas .  She was baptized on September 2, 1917 at Trinity Lutheran Church of Fedor by Rev. G. Birkmann.  On May 15, 1932 she was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church of La Grange by Rev. A.E. Moebus, and given Psalm 145:18-19 as her confirmation Bible verse.

On February 7, 1937 Lena Drosche and Fred Albert Loth were married at Trinity Hill Lutheran Church of La Grange, by Rev. A. E. Moebus.  In 1962 Trinity Hill and Zion Lutheran Churches closed, and were succeeded by Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, which Fred and Lena then joined.  On Saturday, October 15, 2005, our dear Lord called Lena Loth home, at the age of eighty-eight years, one month, and nineteen days.

Lena Loth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Albert Loth; one grandson, Russell Huber; one brother, George A. Drosche; and one sister, Nellie Arispe.

Lena Loth is survived by two daughters, Lillie Mae McGuire, and Mary Ann Bartek and her husband, Johnnie, all of La Grange; by five grandchildren, Debbie Westfall, of Victoria, Tammy Voges, of Bastrop, Cheryl Loth, of Galveston, Albert Loth Jr., of Houston, and John Bartek Jr., of La Grange; by three great-grandchildren, Jetta Mobley, of Victoria, Lauren Bennett, of Bastrop, and Russell Campbell, of Victoria; and by one sister-in-law, Pauline Drosche, of Giddings.

Ruben Harold Kappler was born on April 14, 1937 to Edward William Kappler and Wanda Hermina Kappler nee Lehmann in La Grange .  On April 25, 1937 he was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church of La Grange by Rev. A. E. Moebus.  He was confirmed on March 18, 1951, again at Zion Lutheran Church of La Grange, by Rev. Henry A. Traugott, and given Isaiah 41:10 as his confirmation Bible verse.  On April 15, 1961, Ruben Kappler and Donna Lee Schuh were married at Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Kerrville, Texas, by Rev. A.B. Wagner.

Ruben Kappler was a farmer and rancher his entire life, and also worked as an earth moving contractor, along with his brother, for many years.  He was a member of the Mt. Calvary Men's Club, a charter member of the Breakfast Lions Club of La Grange, and enjoyed working his cattle operation.  On Monday, June 6, 2005, our dear Lord called Ruben Kappler home, at the age of sixty-eight years, one month, and twenty-two days.

Ruben Kappler is survived by his wife, Donna Kappler, of La Grange; by one daughter and son-in-law, Anne & David Seidensticker, of Comfort, Texas; by one son, David Kappler, of College Station; by two grandchildren, Lauren & Aaron Seidensticker, of Comfort, Texas; by one brother and sister-in-law, Edmund & Annie Mae Kappler, of Warda; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

ELSIE SCHELLBERG

Elsie Angeline Schellberg was born on July 16, 1910 to John Medack and Mary Medack nee Roensch in Warda, Texas. She was baptized on July 17, 1910 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Warda by teacher G. M. Schleier, standing in for Rev. G. Buchschacher. On April 13, 1924 she was confirmed at Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Warda by Rev. G. Buchschacher, and given Revelation 3:11 as her confirmation Bible verse. She attended the Holy Cross Lutheran School.

In 1929 Elsie Medack and Alfred George Behrens were married at Trinity Hill Lutheran Church of La Grange, by Rev. A. E. Moebus, and the Lord blessed them with two children, Frances and Clarence. Alfred Behrens died on June 8, 1934. Then, on November 14, 1937, Elsie Behrens and Vastine Alvin Schellberg were married at Trinity Hill Lutheran Church of La Grange, by Rev. A. E. Moebus, and the Lord blessed them with two children, Weldon and Marilyn. Vastine Schellberg died on December 13, 1991. Elsie Schellberg was a homemaker her entire life, and made many beautiful quilts for others for many years. She enjoyed canning, flower and vegetable gardening, baking and noodle making, and playing dominos. On Saturday, March 19, 2005, our dear Lord called Elsie Schellberg home, at the age of ninety-four years, eight months, and three days.

Elsie Schellberg was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; two sons-in-law, F. A. Ahlschlager and John Spillane, Jr.; one grandson, Mike Ahlschlager; one sister; one brother; and numerous step-sisters and step-brothers. 

Elsie Schellberg is survived by two daughters, Frances Hentschel, and her husband Robert, of Fayetteville; and Marilyn Spillane, of Houston; by two sons, Clarence Behrens, of New Ulm; and Weldon Schellberg, and his wife Sylvia, of Flatonia; by seventeen grandchildren, Linda Green, and her husband Nathan, Joann Raschke, and her husband Bruce, Kathy Paxton, and her husband Skip, Sandy Burton, and her husband Jack, Judy Scott, Pam Gerik, and her husband Ronnie, Steve Ahlschlager, and his wife Carol, Gary Behrens, and his wife Dolores, David Behrens, and his wife Maria, Ronnie Behrens, and his wife Danelle, Sheila Schellberg, Andrea Schellberg, Debbie Wilkinson, and her husband Tom, John Spillane, and his wife Stephanie, Patti Dilliard, Susan Bolado, and husband David, and Linda Tagen, and her husband Parrish; by nine step-grandchildren, Ray Hentschel, and his wife Sharon Kay, Judy Wagner, and her husband Willie, Joyce Escalante, and her husband Fernando, Robert Hentschel, Jr., and his wife Rhonda, Ronnie Hentschel, Donnie Hentschel, and his wife Angie, Joan Gersch, and her husband David, Russell Hentschel, and Janis Lehmann, and her husband Ricky; by thirty-one great-grandchildren, by eighteen step-great-grandchildren; by two great-great-grandchildren; by four step-great-great-grandchildren; by one sister-in-law, Eleanor Medack, of Fedor; and by numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives.

John Albert Bullard was born on July 28, 1920 to Edward Bullard and Ada Ann Bullard nee Tharp in Oliver , Arkansas .  He was baptized and confirmed as an adult in 1947 at St. John Lutheran Church of Beaumont, Texas.

John Bullard served in World War II in the U.S. Marines as an aerial navigator in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre, and attained the rank of technical sergeant.  After the war he returned home, and was married to Yvonne Houser Smelker on February 9, 1949 in the First Methodist Church of Beaumont.  An instrument repairman for Union Carbide for 27 years, he retired in 1978, and moved to La Grange, joining Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church .  He was also a member of the AARP, The Nature Conservancy, and VFW Post #5254.  He enjoyed traveling, and took annual trailer trips for many years to Deming , New Mexico , and to Canada .  He also enjoyed playing dominos.  On Thursday, April 28, 2005, our dear Lord called John Bullard home, at the age of eighty-four years and nine months.

John Bullard is survived by one daughter, Judy Crounse, and her husband Mel, of Dayton, Texas; by one son, Bill Bullard, of Humble; by four grandchildren, Michael Bullard, Crystal Bullard, Mallory Crounse, and Tiffini Crounse; by several nieces, nephews, and other relatives; and by many close friends, including Dave and Lois Grube of Deming, New Mexico, and Delma and Lura Skillern, of Texarkana, Texas.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife (in 1986), by three brothers, Charles, Claude, and Frank Bullard; and by one sister, Grace Bullard.

ALMA SURY

Alma Wilhelmine Sury was born on January 11, 1907 to John Traugott Winkler and Anna Amanda Winkler nee Michalk in Warda, Texas. She was baptized on January 20, 1907 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Warda by Rev. G. Buchschacher. On April 5, 1920 she was confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Serbin by Rev. V. P. O. Lugenheim.

On October 3, 1926 Alma Winkler and Ben Miertschin were married at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Serbin. Later she moved to La Grange, and married Leon Ryza on July 21, 1956 at Zion Lutheran Church of La Grange, now Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church and Preschool. Mr. Ryza preceded her in death on November 2,

1973. On January 11, 1977, she married Emil Sury in Bastrop, who also preceded her in death on April 28, 1980. A homemaker her entire life, she was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church and Preschool, and enjoyed gardening, flower tending, and playing dominos. On Thursday, March 17, 2005, our dear Lord called Alma Sury home, at the age of ninety-eight years, two months, and six days.

Mrs. Sury is survived by one daughter, Ruby Tielsch, of La Grange; by two sons and daughters-in-law, Marvin & Estlean Miertschin, of La Grange, and Clinton & Amanda Miertschin, of Austin; by one step-daughter, Sylvia Kramer, and her husband Leonard, of Houston; by two step-sons, Edmund Sury, and his wife Pat, of Fayetteville, and Clarence Sury, and his wife Dorothy, of Ft. Worth; by six grandchildren, Jennifer Calloway, and her husband Richard, of La Grange, Constance Mode, of Austin, Laurie Mackey, and her husband Eric, of Dripping Springs, Bill Miertschin, and his wife Heidi, of Johnson City, Sheri Miertschin, and Wayne Miertschin, both of La Grange; by ten great-grandchildren; by two sisters, Esther Behrens, of La Grange, and Irene Moerbe, of Giddings; and by four nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, one son, Weldon Miertschin, one sister, two brothers, two step-sisters, and three step-brothers.

Lydia Lillie Mary Annie Karstedt was born on January 14, 1910 to Fred Henry Creppon and Rosa Ardelia Creppon nee Hall in Oakland, Colorado County, Texas. She was baptized on November 6, 1910 at Trinity Lutheran Church of New Bielau, Texas by Rev. F. Piepenbrok. On April 16, 1930 she was confirmed at Trinity (Hill) Lutheran Church of La Grange by Rev. A. E. Moebus.

In 1929 she met the man of her dreams, Edward Morris Bunte, of Smithville, and on October 28, 1930 they were married at her parents' home by Rev. A. E. Moebus. They at first made their home in the area of Trinity Hill, renting a farm. In the fall of 1938 they moved to Mullin's Prairie, where they bought a farm, through which the Lord blessed them richly, and provided well for their needs, so that, in 1942, they were able to purchase also a second farm in the same area. In 1949 Edward Bunte died, and Lydia, along with the help of her brother, Robert Creppon, his wife Annie, and a sharecropper, continued to operate the farm. On December 29, 1957 Lydia Bunte and Wilburn Louis Karstedt, Sr., were married by Rev. Theodore H. Graalmann at the parsonage of Zion Lutheran Church in La Grange. Lydia was a member of the Ladies Aid at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church and Preschool of La Grange, the successor to Trinity Hill and Zion Lutheran Churches of La Grange, and often brought other members to their meetings.

Mrs. Karstedt was blessed with good health for many years, and enjoyed canning, baking, and flower gardening. But in 2002 Lydia's good health began to deteriorate, and she moved in with her daughter Elva. Then, last year, she joined her husband Wilburn at Parkview Manor in Weimar, Texas. On Sunday, March 6, 2005, our dear Lord called Lydia Karstedt home, at the age of ninety-five years, one month, and twenty days.

Lydia Karstedt is survived by her husband, Wilburn Louis Karstedt, Sr., of Weimar; by one daughter, Elva Bohot, and her husband Victor, of La Grange; by one stepson, Butch Karstedt, and his wife Linda, of La Grange; by three grandsons, Leland Bohot, and his wife Paula, of Houston, Calvin Bohot, and his wife Becky, of La Grange, and Howard Bohot, and his wife Phyllis, of La Grange; by one step-grandson, Richard Karstedt, and his wife Kirstin, of La Grange; by one step-granddaughter, Kourtney Karstedt, of La Grange; by one great-grandson, Matthew Lee Bohot, of Houston; by three great-granddaughters, Angela Ruth Bohot, Zabrina Rose Karstedt, and Kristen Lynn Bohot, all of La Grange; by two great-great-granddaughters, Abigail Diane Karstedt and Mikayla Dannon Sloan, both of La Grange; by one brother, Robert William Creppon, and his wife, Annie, of La Grange; by one sister, Margaret Bernice Niesner, of La Grange, and by many nephews, nieces, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Morris Bunte; by her parents; by her sister, Docie Jane Parnell; by her parents-in-law, Henry C. Bunte and Isabella nee Wall; by six brothers-in-law, Henry Mike Bunte, August William Bunte, Theodore Louis Bunte, Walter Arnold Bunte, Randolph Albert Bunte, and Ernest Leroy Bunte; and by two sisters-in-law, Minnie Mattie Bunte and Isabella Ocie Bunte Harrell.

ANTON LEHMANN

Anton Bernhard Lehmann was born on August 14, 1918 to Herman Lehmann and Emma Lehmann nee Pietsch in Greens Creek, Texas. He was baptized on August 25, 1918 at Bethany Lutheran Church of Greens Creek by Rev. Theodore J. Kilian. Anton attended Bethany Lutheran School in Greens Creek. On April 17, 1932 he was confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church of Greens Creek by Rev. Paul C. Eifert, and given 2nd Timothy 2:8 as his confirmation Bible verse.

Anton served in World War II, receiving the EAME Campaign Medal with two Bronze Stars, the American Theater Campaign Medal, the Purple Heart, the Distinguished Unit Badge, and the Good Conduct Medal. After the war he returned home, and was married to Erna Bertha Bretting on September 14, 1945 at Salem Lutheran Church of Freyburg by Rev. Louis O Hemmann. In December 1945 Anton & Erna moved to La Grange, and joined Zion Lutheran Church of La Grange, now Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church & Preschool. During his many years at Zion and Mt. Calvary Anton served as an Elder and Sunday School Teacher, and was an active member of the Men's Club.

Anton worked for Kappler Brother Construction Company for thirty years, and for The Lower Colorado River Authority for the remainder of his working career. In April 1984 Anton retired from the LCRA, and pursued his hobby of gardening. On Wednesday, March 2, 2005, our dear Lord called Anton Lehmann home, at the age of eighty-six years, six months, and sixteen days.

Anton Lehmann is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Frederich & Mollie Lehmann, of Houston, and James & Nancy Lehmann, of La Grange; by three grandchildren, Jonathan & Marisa Lehmann, of College Station, and Jason & Andrew Lehmann, of La Grange; by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Herman & Sharon Lehmann, of Plano, and Edwin & Lucille Lehmann, of Conroe; by one sister, Gladys Von Minden, of La Grange; by two sisters-in-law, Jean Lehmann, of Dallas, and Lillie Hengst, of Houston; and by numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife (in 1985), two brothers, Martin & August Lehmann, and four sisters, Wanda Kappler, Ruby Mueller, Erna Hemmann, and Hulda Lehmann.

Herbert John Hohle was born on February 23, 1919 to Paul Gerhard Hohle and Emma Auguste Hohle nee Proske in Giddings, Texas. He was baptized on March 9, 1919 at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Giddings by Rev. G.W. Fischer.

Herbert had a life long gift in the art of music. At age three he learned several songs from his sister Alma by memory. At age six his father gave him a violin, which became his pride and joy.

Herbert attended Immanuel Lutheran School for seven years. On March 20, 1932 he was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Giddings by Rev. G.W. Fischer, and given Matthew 6:33 as his confirmation Bible verse, a verse which he used for comfort and guidance his whole life. After confirmation he began to teach Sunday School, and continued doing so for the next 14 years, in four different churches, and eventually became Sunday School Superintendent for 11 years in three of those churches. He was also a Bible Class moderator, and became a church organist.

On August 11, 1947, Herbert Hohle and Erna Mathilde Kieschnick were married at St. Michael's Lutheran Church of Winchester by Rev. Edward R. Rathgeber. In 1950 Herbert and Erna moved to Austin. Herbert first took a job in wholesale candy franchise sales with the Curtis Candy Company, and then joined the J.R. Reed Music Company in 1960 as a sales representative in their piano and organ department, covering part of Austin and four adjoining counties, including Fayette County. Many older residents of La Grange remember Herbert as a longtime participant in the annual Fayette County Fair, demonstrating organs and pianos.

In 1987 Herbert retired, and he and Erna moved to La Grange. In July 1988 they transferred their church membership to Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church and Preschool of La Grange. Herbert served his Lord here as an organist and member of our Worship Committee, as well as distributing worship tapes to our shut-ins, and looking after our organ.

After his wife's death in 2000, Herbert moved to Jefferson Place Assisted Living, where he continued to serve others by providing music for worship services and other occasions. On Thursday, February 24, 2005, our dear Lord called Herbert Hohle home, at the age of eighty-six years and one day.

Herbert Hohle is survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Erna; by one brother, Walter Hohle; and one sister, Alma Eifert.
