Click here to see who is serving in the next two months' worship services.

REV. MIKE NEWMAN will be our guest pastor November 22nd.  Mike Newman has served as the MMF for Area C since July of 2008. Before serving the Texas District he served in pastoral ministry since 1987 in congregations in Texas, Illinois, and Minnesota. He has been blessed to be involved in the leadership, development and growth of a mission congregation and has served congregations both large and small. His ministry journey has included participation in multi-ethnic ministry, international mission trips, the planting of new ministries, radio and television ministry, and the writing of books and resources. He and his wife Cindy live in San Antonio and are the parents of two wonderful daughters. His hobbies include squeezing in one or two sprint triathlons each year, reading a few good books, spending time with family, and risking his life doing yard work.  Mike’s personal mission statement: "To vibrantly communicate usable faith in order to ignite the reality of and hunger for Jesus Christ in all people." Mike is excited to assist Area C congregations as they reach out with the Good News of Jesus Christ. The new ministries and church plants resulting from this outreach will be part of the “Mission 200” goal of the Texas District to start 200 new churches and ministries by 2017, the 500th anniversary of the Reformation.

On Sunday, November 8th, we will be having a SPECIAL SERVICE HONORING OUR VETERANS and those currently serving in the military.  We would like to include a special list in the bulletin that day, listing those of our congregation who have served and are currently serving in the military, as well as any relatives you may have that have served, or are currently serving.  See the signup sheets in the narthex.  Please include their branch of service and the dates of service if known.  Please invite your family and friends to attend this special service honoring our military.

MISSION PLEDGE UPDATE - As of 10-11-09, we are on track to meet our Mission Pledge.  However, it only takes a short amount of time to fall behind, and this late in the year, there is not much opportunity to catch back up if that happens.  Please prayerfully consider giving to this Mission opportunity.

BIBLE STUDIES

PASTOR’S ADULT STUDY is studying the book of Acts, titled “Acts – The Gospel Throughout The World.”  In this study we will discover that “the church is more than a physical edifice, more than a particular Christian group or denomination.  The church is Christ manifesting Himself to the world through the people of God.”  Lesson titles include “The Church Is Born,” “The Infant Church,” “Growing Pains,” “Marks Of Maturity,” “Thrust Out Of The Nest,” “Broadening Horizons,” “The Mature Church In Labor And Hardships,” “Nurturing Young Churches,” “Bound And Yet Free,” and “The Church Prevails.”  This study is out of the same study as the study on Genesis that has been well-received by our Wednesday morning study.  Our study meets each Sunday in the Multipurpose Room from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m.  Why not come and join us, after worship this morning?

BIBLE CLASS II has begun a 13 part series entitled OUR LIFE IN CHRIST. Join us in the kitchen for a cup of coffee and a discussion of how Jesus brings joy, teaches love, and is the way! Visitors and guests are always welcome.

Our Sunday School is now offering a PARENTS CLASS in the Education Building after worship, from 10:15 a.m. – 11:15 a.m.  This support class, for parents of Sunday Schoolers, will follow the Sunday School lessons, applying it in adult/parent situations.  What a great opportunity to learn the same lessons as your children & bring them alive within your family activities!

Our WEDNESDAY MORNING BIBLE CLASS is currently finishing up a study from the God’s Word For Today series, titled “Genesis:  Rooted In Relationship.”  This study focuses on God's restoration through Jesus Christ of the broken relationship that existed between Him and us; our rootedness in Him, which is strengthened as the Holy Spirit works through God's Word; and God's love for us in Christ, which heals broken relationships, and provides power to strengthen relationships between us and others.  When this study is complete, we will launch out into the next study in the same series, on the book of Exodus.  Please feel free to come any Wednesday, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., to the Multipurpose Room, and share in our study and fellowship.

MEMBERSHIP BIBLE STUDY:  Pastor Bragdon has had a couple of people request a “back to basics” study for new members, or as a refresher course for existing members.  If you are interested in this kind of class, or know someone who would be, please contact Pastor Bragdon (968-3938) .

Women's Bible Study:  On the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month, there is a women's Bible study from 6:00-7:30 pm in the Education Building.  Please join us as we fellowship with other women and learn more about our God and each other!  If you are interested please call Tammy Kelm at 247-3431.  I look forward to hearing from you!  Nursery care will be provided!

PRESCHOOL NEWS

The preschool had a busy October as we had visits from several different entities:the La Grange Volunteer Fire Department as the firemen gave a demonstration on fire safety; Scrubby Bear who taught the students about cleanliness to help stay healthy; and Dabbs Photography who took group and individual pictures. On October 30 chapel was changed to Friday so that parents could be invited to attend and see the students in their pajamas to celebrate the fall season. Parents were then invited to a light lunch in the preschool building. The enrollment is now at 58 students with there being nine students in each of the two-year-old classes and ten students in each of the three and four-year-old classes. Preparations are being made to host the Central Texas Lutheran Schools Preschool Roundtable on November 19 from 1:00 -3:00 PM in our multipurpose room. Becky Weikel, Curriculum Coordinator, is scheduling volunteers to read to the preschool classes. If interested in becoming a volunteer, contact Becky and she will put you on her volunteer list.  Please check out the pictures and the calendar of events on our class website as new information is added to keep our parents and interested persons informed. As always, stop by and visit any time as we welcome visitors to our preschool.

Janice Teinert, Preschool Director

THANK YOU’S

The Mt. Calvary LYF ANNUAL TURKEY & DRESSING DINNER was once again a huge success.  Thanks for all the help from members of the congregation.  The LYF members would like to especially thank everyone for all their donations, and for help cooking turkeys, cornbread, baked goods, and for assisting in the meal preparation and serving, as well as for buying tickets.

What a success!  At NATIONAL NIGHT OUT this year we had over 90 people in attendance (and that doesn't include quite a few that didn't sign in!)  It was a great way for us to carry out our mission to "Reach Out With the Love of Jesus."  To the Men's Club, Rabbs’ Creek Band and the many volunteers who helped out The Board of Missions, we say a very heartfelt THANK YOU!!!  We couldn't have had such a successful evening without your help!

A HUGE thank you to Gladys Teinert who once again managed to win the trophy for Mt. Calvary for the most luminaries and the silver plaque for the most laps walked.  Gladys has been our tireless chairman for the last six years and has done an excellent job but has decided the time has come to pass the torch on to someone else.  Relay For Life is a powerful outreach opportunity for our church and we will need someone to step up and take the leadership role for next year.  Please give some thought to stepping up and helping Mt. Calvary continue the march for a cure.  Contact the church office if you are interested.  Gladys, this has been a job well done!!  THANK YOU!!

Marilyn Trlica would like to thank everyone who remembered her in their prayers, sent cards flowers, brought food and expressed their concern and compassion for her and Bill during her recent surgery.  It has all been very much appreciated.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

The “body” of a church has four kinds of bones:

1. The WISHbones are those folks who spend all their time wishing someone else would do all the work.

2. The JAWbones are those who do all the talking and very little else.

3. The KNUCKLEbones are those who knock everything anyone else tries to do.

4. The BACKbones are those who get under the load and get the work done.

What kind of bone are you?

I AM YOUR CHURCH ENVELOPE

I would like to talk with you, for
I am part of your church life.
I may be a complete stranger to you, but
I can help you be a better Christian.

I like to go to worship on Sunday, for
I help you to be Christ’s partner.
I am very small, but
I am the keystone of your church program.

I am a weekly reminder of your daily blessings.
I dare you to be as good to God as he has been to you.
I am only paper, but
I carry the full gift of a generous heart.

I am the only pocketbook you need on Sunday, and
I promise not to be a burden.
I am your chance to preach, for
I am a silent sermon of your devotion.
