Mt. Calvary Lutheran Preschool has had a wonderful school year and is getting ready for their Graduation and End-of-School Program. The ceremony will be in Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church on Friday, May 25 with refreshments to follow in the preschool building. The preschool will be closed Monday, May 28 for Memorial Day and then resume on Tuesday. The last day of the spring semester will be June 1. The preschool will be closed June 4-8 as the staff prepares for summer school. The summer session will run from June 11-August 17.

Butterflies come in all colors and sizes, and Jennifer Golan's class made their own butterflies and then got to watch them fly. Learning is so much fun! (Posted 4-20-2012)

Stephanie Kates and Becky Weikel, pre-k teachers at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Preschool, taught their students the real meaning of Jesus' Reurrection by assisting them as they made resurrection biscuts. (Posted 4-13-2012)

Principal Stacy Eilers and the Hermes Pre-K 4 staff presented an informative workshop on April 12 at the LGISD Boardroom for preschools so that everyone is on the same path to making our students "Bright STAARS." One part of the presentation was acting out Dr. Jean's Banana Song, and Joslyn Hensley, Mt. Calvary Lutheran Preschool teacher, took the information learned to her class the next morning as they danced to Dr. Jean's song. (Posted 4-13-2012)

The Easter Bunny came today! The Preschool children celebrated Easter with their annual Easter egg hunt. (Posted 4-4-2012)

The Preschool, Sunday School, and after school children rode in on donkeys during our Palm Sunday worship service and sang two songs for the congregation. The children were great! Thanks to all the parents and grandparents who came to support the kids! (Posted 4-4-2012)

Lori Hollek's science classes were "making tracks" as they studied transportation during the week of March 26-30. Talk to your children about the different forms of transportation they discussed in their classes. (Posted 3-27-2012)

La Grange City Mayor Janet Moerbe (at center of photo) signed a proclamation honoring Mt .Calvary Lutheran Preschool as it celebrates LUTHERAN SCHOOLS WEEK March 4-10, 2012. The theme is Securing Each Child's Future. Mt. Calvary has 68 students who will be dressing in special attire each day during the week to coordinate with the theme. Students and staff will dress accordingly:

| March will be a fun month as the students will celebrate Community Helpers and NATIONAL LUTHERAN SCHOOLS WEEK. The school will be closed for Spring Break March 12-16 and resume on Monday, March 19 as we learn about Transportation. The students are practicing songs to sing at the 11:00 AM Lenten services and will also sing at the 9:00 AM church service on Palm Sunday. Be prepared to see the chilren ride in on "donkeys" on Palm Sunday as they sing HE WILL BE RIDING ON A DONKEY. (Posted 02-28-2012) |
Mt. Calvary Lutheran Preschool offers seven classes to students ages 2-5 years old. Students receive individualized and group instruction and attend chapel on Wednesdays and large-group music every afternoon. Morning classes also have the opportunity to attend music and science. (Posted 02-28-2012)

Each Wednesday at 9:15 AM Pastor Qualman leads the preschool students in chapel. Two students from the Lions and Butterfly classes are chosen to lead the students in the Pledge to the Christian Flag and the Lord's Prayer. Pastor discusses the week's Bible story and then Mrs. Laura leads the singing of the week's song. Parents, grandparents, and guests are always invited to jolin the preschool students and staff each Wednesday. The children sing in church every fourth Sunday of the month and everyone is always invited to join in the 9:00 AM church service. (Posted 2-22-2012)

Mrs. Lori brought X-Rays, artificail lungs and brain, and puzzles to teach the Frogs Class how their body works. (Posted 02-21-2012)

Mrs. Lori's science class is studying the body and how it moves and balances. They are reviewing posters of muscles and bones and looking at real bones. They will participate in hoop- to- hoop balancing to learn about flexibility and listen to their hearts. (Posted 2-21-2012)

Learning about trust and helping friends were lessons learned by the students of Stephanie Kates and Becky Weikel as they reenacted the Bible story of the four friends carrying the paralyzed man to see Jesus. Each week the students at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Preschool learn a different Bible story and do songs and activites to emphasize the story. (Posted 2-16-2012)

Mt. Calvary Lutheran Preschool celebrated Valentine's Day with a fun-filled day of activities which included exchanging Valentines, reading Valentine books, participating in Valentine's activities, and having a special Valentine lunch. (Posted 2/14/2012) NOTE: 1 mb.

The science classes decorated cookies for Christmas. First they made their own icing from powdered sugar and milk. Then they added food coloring. They finished by adding sprinkles! (Posted 12-17-2011)

Mt. Calvary Lutheran Preschool presented THE BIRTH OF JESUS at their Dec. 16 Christmas program. Parents, grandparents, great-grandparents and friends joined the students in the preschool building for refreshments before starting their Christmas break. Sgt. Charles Jobb and Deputy Joe Martin came to Mt. Calvary Lutheran Preschool on December 1 and gave a presentation on Stranger Danger. The students were shown the police car and given a National Child Identification Program Kit for their parents which includes an inkless fingerprint kit, a wallet card, and a DNA collection swab. Mt. Calvary Lutheran Preschool is preparing for the celebration of the birth of Jesus by singing at the Advent Services each Wednesday at 11:00 AM as Lorri Sanchez accompanies them on her guitar. The preschool will have their Christmas Program in church on Friday, Dec. 16 at 11:00 AM with refreshments to follow in the preschool building. The preschool will be closed from Dec. 19-January 2. Mt. Calvary Lutheran Preschool celebrated Thanksgiving by making placemats, headbands, pilgrims, Thanksgiving cards, and other activities such as reading Thanksgiving books and Thanksgiving patterning to show how many reasons we all have to give thanks. The preschool closed Wednesday-Friday so that the staff and students could spend quality family time together. (Posted 11/22/2011)

Mt. Calvary Lutheran Preschool's fundraiser of the EPI cookie dough was such a success that the company had a drawing for a $50.00 American Express gift card. Presenting the award to Hunter Sabo was EPI representative Tammy Srubar. (Posted 11-10-2011)

Mt. Calvary Lutheran Preschool has new playground equipment, thanks to the parents and students who did a fantastic job of selling the EPI gourmet cookie dough. The cookie dough will be delivered to the preschool on Thursday, Nov. 10.

Dennis Smith came to Mt. Calvary Lutheran Preschool to pick up his daughter, but got "drafted" into helping Joslyn Hensley lead the students in music. Volunteers are always welcome to assist in projects and activities.

| Each week all classes have a specific letter that they learn to recognize, learn the sound, learn words that begin with that letter, and the older children practice writing the letter. Every day is a special day at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Preschool as the children learn about God's love in a Christian, academic setting. Each week the children have a new Bible story and new song that they sing for the Wednesday morning chapel. Parents are always to join us for chapel at 9:15 each Wednesday morning. The Zoo Man from Capital of Texas Zoo visited the preschool students and gave an informative demonstration about exotic reptiles, mammals, and birds. Check out the pictures on our website, and also go to www.capitaloftexas.org to learn more about these animals. The students listened intently and the best listeners were chosen to "assist" the Zoo Man. Mrs. Becky volunteered to assist in his demonstration, too.

To celebrate Grandparents' Day, Mt. Calvary Lutheran Preschool invited grandparents to join them for a brunch and a selection of songs on Friday, September 9. Grandparents were able to visit the classrooms and meet the teachers. Approximately 80 grandparents from all over the state came to share this special day with their grandchildren. Laura Elliott, our new music teacher, has great things planned for the school year. The students will learn a new song each week based on the Bible story and also practice a song to sing in church every fourth Sunday. Each Wednesday as Pastor Fitch leads the chapel service, two students will lead the Lord's Prayer and two students will lead the Pledge to the Christian flag. Open House was a success as the staff , students, and parents met to discuss the upcoming school year. Students were given a new school shirt that they are to wear on WEDNESDAYS for the 9:15 AM chapel. School will begin on Monday, August 22 with classes beginning at 8:00 AM.
