Summer 2011
| Wednesday, August 10 was the last chapel of the summer school program and ended with the students presenting Pastor Fitch with a large birthday banner and singing Happy Birthday since the school will be closed for in-service for his actual birthday. The older students served as acolytes, leaders of the Lord's Prayer and Pledge to the Christian Flag, and song leaders. | Posted 8/10/2011 | ||
| Vi Taylor-Mueller demonstrated the correct way to measure, sift, and stir to make fabulous cookies. The older students baked Buffalo Chip cookies for the afternoon classes and even got to take home treats for their families. Thanks again to Mrs. Mueller for being such a wonderful volunteer to Mt. | On Wednesday, August 3, Mt. Calvary Lutheran students were honored to have three generations of volunteers teach how to make pillows to the kindergarten to second grade summer classes. Retired Fayette County Extension Agent Vi Taylor-Mueller, her daughter Becky Simpson and her granddaughter Libby Simpson, brought fabric, stuffing, pins, needles, and a sewing machine to teach the students to sew, but with that lesson also came the more valuable lesson of the generosity of giving of one's time and talents. | Posted 8/3/2011 | ||
| Mt. Calvary's summer program is nearly over, so to celebrate the near-end of a long, hot summer, students had a "fun day" on Tuesday, August 2. The students enjoyed playing with the limbo game, tunnels, blocks, and other games and then cooled off with strawberry slushies. | Posted 8/2/2011 | ||

| Chapel is held each Wednesday at 9:15 AM during the summer. Pastor Fitch gives a short chidren's message and students serve as acolytes, leaders of the Pledge to the Christian Flag, leaders of the Lord's Prayer, and song leaders. | Summer school at Mt. Calvary is fun, especially when the older students get to read to the younger ones. Summer school will run until August 12 and the school will close for a week of in-service for the teachers. Fall classes begin on Monday, August 22. | Posted 7/19/2011 | ||
| Mt. Calvary Lutheran Preschool is having a great summer program as the children are beating the heat by playing with shaving creme as they develop their fine motor skills. | Mt. Calvary Lutheran Preschool's summer program is taking a break from the hot summer weather by learning about musical instruments from music director Laura Gillette and her son Miles. The students were able to hear the sounds of different instruments, such as bells, guitar, triangle, organ, piano, chime tree, and hand chimes. They were able to play the hand-held instruments. | The preschool building was turned into a Hawaiian-themed party on 6-15-11 as the teachers and students enjoyed a jumping castle, bean bag toss, ring toss, sack races, and balloon hats or animals made of their choosing. | On June 9 Mt. Calvary Lutheran Preschool hosted a workshop for twenty-three teachers from five area preschools . Sheila Richburg and Leigh Ann Sublette presented the workshop entitled Small Hands: Big Ideas as they discussed creative and innovative ways to teach literacy at all classroom centers. The teachers were then taken to a preschool classroom where Mrs. Richburg and Ms. Sublette had completed an " extreme make-over" of one of the classrooms. | Posted 6/9/2011 | ||
| During the summer months, Mt. Calvary Lutheran Preschool has a chapel service each Wednesday at 9:15 for all students to attend. This past week, students in the Lions class led the Lord's Prayer and Pledge to the Christian Flag, students in the Fish class told what they could do to show their love for Jesus, and students in the Butterfly class led the singing of the songs. | School might be out for some children, but Mt. Calvary Lutheran is in full swing as students are having fun learning and playing with their friends. Students ages two years to second grade are spending special time together as they are practicing their skills learned in the regular school term. Sondra Cooper, representing the Texas Women's League, presented Janice Teinert, Preschool Director, with a check for $2000.00 for the purpose of purchasing technology for the preschool. The Texas Women's League presented checks of more than $72,000 at the Eighth Charity Funding Event on May 16, 2011. |

Twenty students in the classes of Mrs. Becky Weikel and Mrs. Stephanie Kates will be "graduating" from Mt. Calvary Lutheran Preschool on Friday, May 20 at 11:00 AM. The ceremony will include songs from all seven classes and recognition of all students. Afterwards there will be a light luncheon in the preschool building for parents and students. |

Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor, the Mt. Calvary Lutheran After-School Program has new hand bells. Under the direction of Wendy Kruse, the students are preparing for their 9:00 AM Easter Sunday performance.

| In honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday on March 2, Becky Weikel read to all students before they had green eggs and ham for their morning snack. Betsy Chovanec just happens to have chickens that lay green eggs, so the students enjoyed seeing the green eggs that she donated. Mrs. Charlene whipped up the eggs into a delicious snack that the students enjoyed eating. The Lions and Butterflies made Cat in the Hat hats which can been seen outside their classroom doors.
